Hornborgasjön (Lake Hornborga) lies between the
large lakes Vänern and Vättern. Hornborga is one of Sweden's largest and most valuable bird lakes. 130 species breed regular in the area.
The lake is most known for the dancing Cranes. On their way from the winter quarters in Spain to their breeding grounds, some 30,000 - 40,000 Cranes rest at the Lake. They usually stay for a week or two to eat, dance and rest. In 2009 the highest number in one day was 18,000 birds.
At the lake, there are two information centres, several hides, bird towers and a cafeteria.
From one of the centres you have the Cranes just outside the windows, where you have eye view at the Cranes and have a very good opportunity to take photos.
The Cranes are here in a very short period, so please be in good time to book our service.
